Israeli Airstrike Kills Dozens in Rafah, Gaza

Over 45 Killed, Including Women and Children

World Reacts with Horror after Massacre

On Sunday, July 17, 2022, an Israeli airstrike on a makeshift tent camp for displaced Palestinians in Rafah, Gaza killed at least 45 people, including women and children. The attack, which occurred late Sunday night, has been condemned by Egypt, the United Nations, and the European Union.

The Israeli military claimed that the airstrike was targeting a Hamas military installation. However, witnesses and human rights groups say that the camp was full of civilians who had been displaced by the ongoing violence in Gaza.

The airstrike is the deadliest single attack in Gaza since the Israeli military launched its offensive on July 8, 2022. The death toll in Gaza has now risen to over 200, including more than 50 children.

The international community has reacted with horror to the attack. The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called for an immediate ceasefire. The European Union has condemned the "indiscriminate" airstrikes and called for an independent investigation.

The Israeli government has defended its airstrikes, saying that they are necessary to stop Hamas from firing rockets into Israel. However, critics say that the Israeli military is using excessive force and that civilians are bearing the brunt of the violence.
